Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program (VITA)
may be just for you!
• A unique volunteer opportunity
• No accounting experience needed – Tax software guides you every step of the way. Free training and certification materials will be provided. Training sessions begin in January.
• No liability to volunteers – Training is provided and sites are IRS approved
• Time commitment is up to you – Volunteer as much or as little as you like
• Who can volunteer? – People just like you, college students, retirees, homemakers, members of volunteer or community organizations and businessmen and women.
Why volunteer? Each year, revenue is lost to Roane County when hard working area families do not file for their Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) at tax time. That money is lost to them and to the local economy. In addition there is revenue lost unnecessarily when area families pay high fees to commercial tax preparation firms that offer refund anticipation loans (RALs) or rapid returns.
We would like for you to join the team to help families and the Roane County economy. Volunteer at our VITA site and help provide low income working families free tax preparation help and links to other financial opportunities.
